The Brewery

Drink good beer, crafted in our own Bloomington brewery.

We make one of Indiana’s largest varieties of craft beer, brewed in-house, and we’re always working on something new. Our Bloomington Brewery crafts over 30 beers annually, from stouts to seasonals to strong ales. You can’t go wrong.

Chris Paumi – Head Brewer, The Tap

Chris Paumi leads brewing operations at The Tap Brewery in Bloomington, Indiana. With a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology, Chris brings a strong scientific background and nearly 25 years of brewing experience to the role. He oversees the full production process for our core lineup, seasonal offerings, and specialty projects.

Before joining The Tap, Chris founded and operated Fusion Brewing in Lexington, Kentucky. He later held roles at Samuel Adams Pennsylvania Brewery, Maumee Bay Brewing, Iron Heart Canning Company, and contributed to Lourdes University’s craft beverage program. His strengths lie in barrel-aging, wild fermentation, and recipe development—especially styles that push creativity while maintaining balance and drinkability.

Chris joins The Tap at an exciting time of growth and evolution. He looks forward to building on the brewery’s established foundation—shaped in large part by former head brewers Ross Miller and Jarrod May—while bringing fresh ideas and new projects to life. His focus is on honoring fan-favorite beers while expanding into new styles, including fruited and barrel-aged offerings and the continuation of rotating series like Hull-N-Oats.

He and his wife recently relocated to Indiana to be closer to their twin daughters and are excited to call Bloomington home. Whether refining our flagship recipes or launching something entirely new, Chris is focused on brewing beers that stay true to The Tap’s approachable style—made to be shared, talked about, and enjoyed.

Nathan Finney – Founder of The Tap and Tap Brewery

Our late founder and creator of The Tap opened the brewery just a couple of years after opening in Bloomington. Nathan developed a strong passion for craft beer because of other local breweries like Bloomington Brewing Company, Sun King and Upland and from a period where he lived in Florida enjoying Cigar City, Tampa Bay Brewing Company, and hanging out with friends trying all kinds of beer at The Brass Tap. His love of beer and his belief that he could create an atmosphere of friendship and gathering around craft beer lead him back to Indiana.

Nathan was just as passionate about people and hospitality as he was craft beer. His commitment to taking care of his team, his guests, and his friends were the reason why The Tap and Tap Brewery have had so much success. Nathan’s family and the leadership team at Finney Hospitality continue to be fully committed to great beer, great food, and great friends!
